Juvéderm® – Injectable Fillers – Voluma, Vollure

OVERVIEW

Fillers have improved with their popularity over the years providing longer-lasting results, as seen with the FDA-approved Juvéderm family of cosmetic fillers. Houston area cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kristi Sumpter injects filler to add fullness to areas with low volume and to fill in and smooth folds, lines, and wrinkles. It is also used for cheek augmentation to give patients a non-surgical cheek lift. This gel-based hyaluronic acid family of dermal fillers is easily absorbed into the skin, providing a natural look and feel. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the body, and Juvéderm is made to provide the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid compared to other fillers. Juvéderm comes in various forms - and we are proud to offer these choices to our patients depending on their unique needs and aesthetic goals. The product typically lasts eight months, with some variations remaining for up to 12 months or longer.

JUVÉDERM FORUMULATIONS

Our Houston, TX, cosmetic surgery center offers several variations of Juvéderm, including Juvéderm Ultra XC, Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC. Volbella specifically targets the area around the mouth. Voluma provides a lift and adds volume to the cheeks.

At a consultation, the provider will assess facial lines and wrinkles to determine which formula will offer the most optimal results. On average, results from most Juvéderm products can last up to a year. Many patients return sooner (approximately six to eight months) to maintain their results.

Learn more about the different types of Juvéderm:

  • Juvéderm Ultra XC & Ultra Plus XC: has a gel consistency that works beautifully on moderate to severe folds in the nasolabial area and facial wrinkles. It softens laugh lines and the area under the eyes, the lines between the brows, and the lower face around the mouth. With partial duration for up to12 months, Juvéderm Ultra & Ultra Plus injections can augment your lips and perioral area. Juvéderm Ultra Plus has a slightly thicker consistency for use on deeper lines.

  • Juvederm Vollure XC is used to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the "parentheses lines" around the nose and mouth. It temporarily corrects facial wrinkles, adding volume for a smoother appearance. The clinical study demonstrated Juvederm Vollure lasts in part up to 18 months.

  • Volbella: Volbella can augment the lips and smooth the wrinkles around the mouth. It creates a softer look around the mouth while at the same time improving overall lip volume and fullness. Dr. Sumpter has witnessed excellent outcomes with Volbella and often prefers to use it for the lips in patients with thin upper lips and desire a natural-looking result.

  • Voluma: Voluma is generally used in the cheek area. It is proven to create a naturally lifted appearance to cheeks resulting in a more youthful appearance. This injection is an excellent alternative to cheek implants. Once injected, the cheeks appear fuller, raised, and younger-looking. Results produce a smooth, youthful contour and have been known to last in part up to 2 years.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Juvéderm is performed during an in-office appointment. An assessment is made to determine optimal placement, which filler(s), and the amount (number of syringes) needed to produce the desired results. A topical numbing cream may be applied to help with any discomfort. As the product is injected into the skin, the injector will massage the area so that the medication diffuses and spreads evenly. Cold compresses are then applied to help with swelling.

AFTER TREATMENT

After a Juvéderm treatment, patients can return to work, but exercise or strenuous activity should be avoided for about 24 hours. The injection sites will appear red and swollen, but this goes away within hours. Some patients may bruise, but this is also temporary. The visible results after the injections are noticed immediately. Depending upon the specific Juvederm product used, the results will last for about 6 - 9 months or longer before another treatment is needed or desired.

EXPECTED COST

Costs of Juvederm fillers may range from $530 to $645 per syringe of Juvéderm. The cost varies based on the formula chosen, the amount of product needed, the size of the area, the area impacted by wrinkles, and the depth of wrinkles. Voluma can last up to 2 years and costs around $800 per syringe. The results can delay a surgical procedure, such as a mid-facelift or cheek implants, for an extended period of time.
