Brow Lift Surgery

OVERVIEW

A tell-tale sign of how old a person is in etched in his or her forehead and can be especially noticeable in the eyebrows. Since eyebrows can droop as a person gets older, a brow lift not only lifts the brows into a higher position, but also gets rid of wrinkles in the forehead. The goal of this procedure is for Houston cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Sumpter, to make a patient look more refreshed and younger-looking by taking away a perpetually tired look. After a brow lift, a patient will be left with a smoother forehead, reduced frown lines between the eyebrows and raised upper eyelids. An added benefit is that results from this surgery can last up to 10 years.

BEST CANDIDATES

The best candidates for those seeking brow lift surgery, include men and/or women who have:

  • Low set eyebrows that produce a “tired” or “frowning” appearance
  • Sagging eyelid that is caused by a droopy brow
  • Forehead wrinkles that appear near the brow
  • Overall good health; non-smokers

WHAT TO EXPECT

During the initial consultation, Dr. Sumpter will evaluate the overall health of the skin, which will include skin quality and looseness. He will also evaluate the folds and wrinkles of the forehead and hairline, as well as the position of the inner, middle and outer portions of the eyebrows and the upper eyelids. This evaluation will help him to determine if a brow lift is the best procedure, and eliminate if an eyelid lift is needed instead. During a brow lift, one of several possible surgical techniques will be used. Some common incision approaches include along the natural upper eyelid crease or the brow’s hairline. A slightly more invasive approach is a coronal incision, which runs from ear to ear underneath the patient’s hair. The endoscopic brow lift is most often used, which is the least invasive approach.

BROW LIFT RECOVERY

Swelling and bruising are expected on the forehead and eyes after brow lift surgery, although this will vary between patients. This swelling subsides within the first 1-2 weeks. The forehead may have some decreased sensation that will improve over time. Most patients can resume modest activity in 7-10 days, with a complete recovery in about 3-4 weeks.

EXPECTED COST

Brow lift surgery, on average, costs between $4,000 to $7,000.
